Since 1984, the Ernest R. Caverly Award has been presented to Brookline educators in recognition of professional achievements and contributions to the Brookline Public Schools. Two awards are given annually: one to a high school educator and one to an elementary school educator. The educators receiving the awards are designated as Ernest R. Caverly Associates in recognition of their dedication to the ideals of Dr. Ernest R. Caverly, a distinguished public school leader, educator, and Brookline Schools
Superintendent (1931 - 1964).
The Adam Russell Gelfand Fellowship was established in Spring 2000. It is awarded to the teacher or teachers submitting the most outstanding proposal for a teacher grant.
The Adam Russell Gelfand Fellowship is a specially named teacher grant program administered by the Brookline Education Foundation. Funding for the program was provided with the generous support of the Gelfand's friends and family members and the Adam Russell Gelfand Family Trust. Recipients of the Fellowship are Brookline Public School teachers. Each year, teachers apply to the Brookline Education Foundation as part of its Teacher Grants Program, and a teacher and his/her proposal that represents all or many of the goals of the Gelfand Fellow Program is selected as that year's recipient.
In 1998, an award was inaugurated in honor of Dr. Robert "Bob" Sperber, to be given to an administrator in the Brookline Public Schools who best exemplifies his ideals. Dr. Sperber was Superintendent of Schools in Brookline from 1964 to 1982.
Every five years, the Brookline Education Foundation presents the Robert I. Sperber Award to recognize professional excellence in administrative leadership. The award recipient exemplifies not only excellence in administrative management but also leadership that has brought about significant improvement in the school system.
Recipients are chosen from Brookline's talented pool of Principals and Vice Principals, Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster, Deans and Associate Deans, Elementary Curriculum Coordinators, and BHS Curriculum and Program Coordinators.
The Charlie Baker Legacy Award is a specially named teacher grant award to encourage professional development activities in the areas of US History and World Geography. Initial funding for the award was provided by a generous gift of an anonymous donor.
Recipients of the award are selected from among teacher grant proposals in the areas of US History and/or World Geography. The purposes of the award are twofold: to encourage the study of the United States' economic, environmental, ethnic, racial, or cultural past with a view toward improving one's knowledge of the history of the United States, and to encourage the study of World Geography with a view toward promoting and increasing geographic literacy in the classroom. The award consists of a $1,000 stipend (in addition to the Foundation's funding of the teacher grant). The award may be used to pay for travel to research sites, stipends, course tuition, and supplies directly related to the teacher grant.
